Bank Indonesia, Thursday ( 9 / 7), officially launch the new bank note of fraction Rp 2.000, emission year 2009 as a valid medium of exhange in Indonesia.
““The issuance of this new edition banknote is part of Bank Indonesia’s money supply policy, more specifically to meet public demand for rupiah in a sufficient nominal amount, in a timely fashion and fit for circulation,” explained Acting Governor, Miranda S. Goeltom.
The Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia, Miranda S. Goeltom, accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia in the area of money supply, S. Budi Rochadi, the Governor of South Kalimantan, Rudy Ariffin, and the Governor of Central Kalimantan, Agustin Teras Narang, officially launched the Rp 2,000 banknote, 2009, as legal tender on Thursday, 9th July 10, 2009 in Banjarmasin.

The new denomination banknote features Prince Antasari (a national hero hailing from Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan) with a depiction of traditional Dayak dancing on the reverse side. The banknote will become legal tender on 10th July 2009. The choice of design was based on the theme of national heroes, which heralds our appreciation of them and further immortalizes our national culture.
The new Rp2,000 banknote is predominantly grey in color and features a watermark of Prince Antasari’s portrait with a metallic thread embedded in the paper and ‘BI2000’ written repeatedly, which glows red when held under ultraviolet light. The new banknote also accommodates a blind code on the right-hand side, which consists of an engraved, elongated cube.
In addition, similar to when the 2004 edition Rp100,000 and Rp20,000 banknotes were issued as well as the 2005, Rp50,000 and Rp10,000 banknotes, Bank Indonesia will also issue uncut Rp2,000 banknotes, totaling 4,700 sheets consisting of 2 notes, 4 notes and 50 notes per sheet. For collectors, as is customary the uncut banknotes will be issued in several countries as a special edition.
